Can dry ice clean a concours undercarriage without removing factory underseal?
Yes — pressure tuned to lift contamination off the underseal, not strip the underseal itself.
Verdict
Yes
The undercarriage application where factory underseal preservation matters most.
The detailed answer
Factory underseal is one of the most important — and most often-damaged — features of a concours-restored undercarriage. Sandblasting strips it. Pressure-washing soaks it. Chemical degreasers slowly dissolve the binder. Dry ice cleaning lifts road tar, oil mist and grime off the underseal surface without disturbing the underseal itself. Pressure is calibrated per surface (~100-130 PSI for chassis rails, lower around bushes and decals). The underbody comes out clean, the underseal stays intact, and any defects (cracked welds, perished bushes, leaking diffs) are now visible for inspection. Suspension bushes don't get soaked or swelled. We work over a hoist with photographic documentation throughout.
